My piece consists of mostly one medium, oil paint. I used a cream-colored pencil to sketch what I wanted to draw first before going over it with a bright thin layer of light red paint, watered down with medium. I was inspired to do this theme because this year I have found an interest in the conservation regarding native land, water, and even the animals that live on reservations. It is something I am passionate about because I have learned so much about it. Even if there isn't a lot you can do directly, things like talking, and creating art are ways you can at least bring awareness to the problem. After, blocking in the basic colors, like the eagle and the girl, I started adding detail. I wanted her face to look emotionless, like numb. I also wanted the bird to be big and proud, to symbolize the freedom that comes with protection. After, I finished it off with highlights and then fixed any minor mistakes.
