I was inspired after visiting the General Sherman Sequoia Tree, the largest living organism on earth, in Sequoia National Park to make a carved acrylic painting of the tree. With poured layers of different colored acrylic paint, I then carved into the paint. By carving different depths, different colors show to recreate a picture I took of the tree this past summer. The layered wood frame behind the painting represents the many rings that are inside the massive sequoia tree, and the same idea is also incorporated in the layers of acrylic paint.
